On 10th November, Virender Sehwag decided to post a send-off for the Pakistan Cricket Team on his X and Instagram. These posts came on the day after Sri Lanka lost to New Zealand in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, which meant Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals were close to zero. Sehwag got a lot of backlash for his posts and but he defended himself.
In a new tweet, Sehwag talked about how the Pakistani players and fans never respected India. He took examples of Zaka Ashraf, Nawaz Sharif, and Pakistan fans who never missed an opportunity to mock the Indian cricket team. He also called out Pakistani cricketer, Hasan Raza, for saying the BCCI and the ICC had fixed the tournament so that India could win.
Sehwag said the only reason he decided to mock the Pakistan team was because they did not respect the Indian team. As a response to the ones that called him classless, Sehwag said class was a two way street.
Jo Achha vyavhar kare uske saath hum bahut hi achhe, aur jo aisa vyavhar kare toh sahi mauke par soot samet lautana is my way. On field bhi, off-field bhi.Virender Sehwag on his X account
Netizens divided over Virender Sehwag’s new tweet
While many fans defended Sehwag for his tweet, there was some backlash as well. Indian fans praised him for sticking to his roots and showing his patriotism to India, but at the same time Pakistan fans once again called out his behavior.
Check out their reactions below:
In their last group stage match against England, which is underway in Kolkata, Pakistan needed to bat first against England to ensure they had a chance to qualify for the semi-final, with Babar Azam still believing they had a chance. Unfortunately, those chances have now been quashed as Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat first. The only way Pakistan can qualify now is:
- If England score 50, chase in 2 overs.
- If England score 100, chase in 2.5 overs.
- If England score 200, chase in 4.3 overs.
- If England score 300, chase in 6.1 overs
