Pakistan got knocked out of the 2023 ODI World Cup on Saturday (November 11) after their match against England at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. As they failed to qualify for the semifinals, videos of skipper Babar Azam are doing rounds on social media where he could be seen stopping keeper Mohammad Rizwan from celebrating Ben Stokes’ wicket.

The incident happened after Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Ben Stokes on the first delivery of the 41st over. As Afridi started celebrating and approached Rizwan, Babar interfered by trying to stop Rizwan from celebrating the wicket.

Earlier in the match, England, after electing to bat first, posted a challenging total of 337/9 after Stokes’ 84, Joe Root‘s 60, Jonny Bairstow‘s 59, and small contributions from other batters. Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals already looked slim and though Babar was hopeful of still making it to the next stage, his losing the toss made it impossible to secure themselves a berth in the last four, for they had to win the match by a huge margin of 287 runs.

Wasim Akram criticizes Babar Azam after his press conference

Babar Azam slammed the critics on the eve of the team’s match against Jos Buttler and company, saying he doesn’t let outside noise affect him and the team. He reminded them that he had been scoring runs prior to the World Cup and that if anyone wanted to give him advice, he had given his number to everyone.

But former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram did not like Babar’s attitude, saying if he did well in the tournament, no one would have uttered anything against him. He advised the skipper to be immune to the criticism he faces.

If you do well, everything goes fine. But if you don’t, then you have to be answerable to people and the press. And don’t worry about what people say, you need to be immune to this.
Akram said on A sport.
