Rahul Dravid‘s tenure as India’s head coach ended after the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup between India and Australia. He joined the side two years ago, in 2021, and under him, India lifted the 2023 Asia Cup. Under Dravid, India also played the 2022 T20 World Cup, World Test Championships Final (WTC), 2022 and 2023 Asia Cup, and the ODI World Cup.
India, in the World Cup final, lost to Australia by six wickets after failing to defend 241 runs in Ahmedabad. A century by Travis Head and a half-century from Marnus Labuschagne propelled the team to their sixth World Cup title.
After this World Cup, the finalists will lock horns in a five-match T20I series in India from Thursday (November 23). The recent reports say that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to take a call on whether Dravid will continue guiding the team or not.
Rahul Dravid says he has not pondered over his future as head coach yet
Though India faltered in ICC events under Rahul Dravid, they did play some memorable matches and also reached the knockouts of all the ICC tournaments. After the post-match press conference on Sunday following India’s final defeat to the Aussies, Dravid said his focus was mostly on guiding Rohit Sharma and Co. in this World Cup, which is why he has not thought over his future as India’s head coach.
I haven't thought about it. Again, I've just come off a game. I have no time to think about this and no time to reflect on it.Dravid said at the press conference.
He added:
Yeah, I will when I get the time to do that. But at this point in time, I was completely focused on this campaign. I was focused on this World Cup, and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven't given any other thought to what happens in the future.
In the World Cup, India were the most dominating team throughout the tournament except for the final. They were the only team to win all the group stage matches but, unfortunately, Travis Head ruined their dream of winning their third World Cup trophy.
