With two brilliant half-centuries by Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans looked as if to defeat Mumbai Indians easily but thanks to the MI bowlers and fielders, they slammed the table topper by 5 runs in a thriller on Friday, May 6 at the Brabourne Stadium.

In the last over, Gujarat Titans needed 9 runs in the penultimate over. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia were on the crease. But on the 3rd ball over the over, MI’s Tilak Verma sent back Tewatia with a brilliant run-out.

Rashid Khan walked in and at that time Gujarat needed 7 runs in 3 balls. MI fans must had lost their hope when at the crease was standing the ‘Killer Miller’, who has the power to hit huge during these pressure moments.

The last overs were not less than thrillers. Bowling under-pressure, Daniel Sams was to be given the whole credit for Mumbai’s second victory. Daniel Sams kept Miller on hold with his slower balls.

But in the last ball of the innings, Gujarat needed 6 runs. Daniel Sams then bowled a low full toss which was a slower ball once again. Miller tried to swing his bat but misses. Sams heaved a huge sigh of relief and punched in the air after excellently defending the runs.

“It was pretty tight towards the back end. Very satisfying, something we were looking for all this while. Luck has to turn at some stage, we’ll take that win with both hands. Credit to everyone. We were 15-20 runs short. The way we started, we got stuck in the middle. They bowled well in that situation. Tim David finished things really well. We knew it would be tough, but we held our nerves and that was good to see. A lot depends on how the game is going, who’s bowling well on the day.”

“Sams was under the pump in a couple of games but I know the quality he has. It’s important to back those guys. We are trying to maintain the same squad how much ever possible. Daniel Sams was brilliant,” said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation.
