Recently, a report suggested that the BCCI was looking to drop Virat Kohli from the T20I squad and make way for the younger batch of Indian batters. The report said Ajit Agarkar and his selection committee believed Kohli would not be able to handle the slow wickets of West Indies as well.
With the possibility of Kohli being dropped, many fans have already expressed how they disagreed with the move. Joining them was former Pakistan leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, who believes Virat Kohli needs to stay in the team. In an interview with IANS, the retired star claimed that the Indian legend needed to stay to groom the youngsters and that it was not time to look beyond him for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
How can you drop him? He (Virat Kohli) is performing, he’s been playing pretty well and he’s scoring runs. He should be in the Indian team, you can’ look beyond him. He needs to be in the squad to groom players. India is doing well and he should be in the team.Danish Kaneria to IANS
Kohli has played only two T20Is since the 2022 T20I World Cup, scoring 29 and 0. Before that, he was the highest run scorer in the 2022 T20 World Cup, scoring 296 runs in six innings with an average of 96.88, striking at 136.4.
Danish Kaneria wants Kuldeep Yadav to play Ranji Trophy to improve
Danish Kaneria is a huge fan of Indian spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Before the 2023 ODI World Cup, he advocated for Yadav to feature in squad ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal and is now happy to see the 29-year-old regain his confidence. He advised the spinner to bowl long spells to become a better bowler.
Kuldeep's confidence is back and I want him to continue bowling with the same confidence. If he gets a chance, he should play Ranji Trophy and bowl long spells because the more he bowls, the better he'll become.Danish Kaneria said
After the 2019 ODI World Cup, Yadav had lost his spots in almost all formats of the game, but has now come back. He is a regular for India in all three formats now, and recently impressed against England. He picked up 19 wickets in four matches, with an impressive average of 20.16.
