Danish Kaneria was one of the few cricketers in Pakistan belonging to Hinduism. He has often accused some of his teammates for asking him to convert to Islam.
A few days ago, he started fighting on X (formerly Twitter) with Indian journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani over the treatment of Pakistani players by Indian fans. Arfa said she was ashamed of being an Indian after seeing such hostile behavior, to which Kaneria asked her to live in Pakistan.
Kaneria has blamed Shahid Afridi for asking him to convert to Islam. He shared a tweet by uploading a YouTube video of Afridi speaking on a news channel about breaking TV when he saw his daughter performing ‘Arti’ while watching an Indian serial. Kaneria asked if this was Afridi’s behavior toward his daughter, who just mimicked performing ‘Arti’, how the ex-Pakistan captain treated him just because he is a Hindu.
Yasar Shah, a politician from the Samajwadi Party, replied to him: “You escaped because you didn’t call him “abbu” like his daughter. Or did you ?”
And came Kaneria’s reply: “I escaped because I have the blessings of Lord Ram. You take care of yourself because your Abbu Yogi Adityanath is there in UP.”
