“Wisdom of experience”- David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen power South Africa to win in 1st T20I vs India

India is taking on South Africa in the first T20I of five-match series on Thursday, June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. With the half-century knocks from R vav der Dussen and David Miller, South Africa defeated India by seven wickets. India could have become the first country to win most consecutive matches by surpassing Afghanistan. But the defeat ended India’s winning streak after win in 12 matches.
India was asked to bat first and got off to a good start. Ishan Kishan emerged as the highest scorer with his 76 runs off 48 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. Other opener Ruturaj Gaikwad a short outing on the field, scored 23 runs off 15 balls. Shreyas Iyer’s knock of 36 runs from 27 balls helped India post 156 runs in 16.1 overs. The pair of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya then played quick knocks with the former scoring 29 runs off 16 balls and Pandya played an unbeaten 31 runs in just 12 balls (with 2 fours and 3 sixes). At the end, India put a huge target of 211 on the scoreboard.
South Africa responded with Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma scoring 22 and 18 respectively. Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the first wicket to India by dismissing Bavuma while Axar Patel had dismissed de Kock. Dwaine Pretorius played a quick knock of 29 off 13 balls by smashing a four and 4 sixes before Harshal Patel’s full toss bowled him.
David Miller has been in tremendous form which fans got a glimpse in the recently concluded IPL 2022. His knocks had helped the new team Gujarat Titas clinch the trophy. He is continuing playing with this form and smashed an unbeaten 64 runs in 31 balls with 4 fours and five sixes. But it was Rassie van der Dussen who scored the most for the team with his 75 off 46 with 7 fours and 5 sixes. When it looked that India had all control over the match, these two players stayed at the crease and comfortably chased the massive target.
