In Australia’s victory over Sri Lanka, David Warner was dismissed leg before wicket by Dilshan Madushanka. Umpire Joel Wilson took time to make his decision and he decided that the ball was on the path to hit the stump. Warner decided to review as it looked like the ball would miss the leg stump. When DRS went to ball tracking, it showed that the ball was on the way to graze the leg stump and decided to give Warner out based on the umpire’s call.

When he asked Umpire Joel Wilson why he gave it out, Wilson believed the ball swung back in to hit the stump, but Warner believed it was the wrong decision. DRS decided to stay with Wilson’s decision, which made Warner leave the field visibly unhappy. He hit his pad with his bat and shouted at the direction of the Umpire.

Warner also wants the officials to explain Hawk-Eye to the players. “I’ve never had Hawk-Eye come in and explain to us how the technology actually works, it’s just for the TV,” said Warner. He added, “If they could come in and explain to us how it works, then sometimes we might (choose) not to refer or to refer.”

David Warner wants Umpire stats to be shown just like players, expects more accountability

David Warner suggests that Umpire stats should also be shown to viewers. Warner said when a player walks out to bat, all their stats are shown. In that same fashion the umpire stats should also be shown when they are announced. He claimed as the National Rugby League and the National Football League show these stats, Cricket could show it too.

Warner wants umpires to be accountable in the future as well. He said he is fine if an Umpire makes a wrong decision and apologizes for it. The opener again took the example of the NRL, when an official has a  bad game, they usually aren’t allowed to officiate the next match.

Australia have played three matches in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup so far. They have lost to India and South Africa, but got their first win against Sri Lanka. They will now face Pakistan on 20th October in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
