England batter Dawid Malan is likely to miss the the semifinal match against India at the ongoing T20 World Cup, which is set to take place on Thursday (November 10) at the Adelaide Stadium. It’s a major blow to the England cricket team ahead of the crucial fixture, considering the significance of Malan in the batting line-up.

The left-handed batter picked up a groin injury during England’s clash against Sri Lanka. As a result, he was subbed off, raising speculations over his availability for the rest of the tournament. As per reports, the injury is a bit serious and will force him out of action for some time now.

With Malan being unavailable, the English management might bring in Phil Salt into the XI, who has been warming the bench at the showpiece event. While the former No.1 ICC-ranked T20I batter didn’t bat against Sri Lanka, he scored 79 runs in the previous four games.

Moeen Ali believes it’s a big upset as Dawid Malan has been one of England’s best players in the format and the returns of the scans have not been good. “He has been one of our best players for a number of years. I don’t know but to be honest with you it is not looking great. He went for scans yesterday and when he arrived, we don’t really know much but it is not looking great,” Moeen Ali told BBC.

Ali also feels the the Lions are the underdogs and have been lacking a bit in comparison to India. “England are the underdogs. India have been playing fantastic over the last year and even if you look at the tournament they have been playing really well. I don’t think we have to be honest, we have been a little behind,” Moeen Ali further added.
