The first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2023 playoffs race, Delhi Capitals put on a terrible show in this edition of the tournament. With just 5 wins in 14 matches, DC finished in the ninth positon in the points table.

They had three good seasons from 2019-21 but since 2022, DC seem to have lost their MOJO. Though they were missing out on their gun player and captain Rishabh Pant, the rest of the team didn’t pull off much either. Their lone performer was all-rounder Axar Patel with 11 wickets in 14 matches and 283 runs including a fifty to his name.

Before the upcoming IPL season, DC could look to release quite a few players from their squad.

Players Delhi Capitals will look to release ahead of IPL 2024 Auction

1. Prithvi Shaw

Once considered one of the most destructive openers in the IPL, Prithvi Shaw seems to have lost his touch. Since DC were already missing out on Pant, the management had heavy faith was on Shaw’s batting. However, the youngster failed to live up to the reputation. Shaw managed to score just 106 runs in 8 matches. Safe to say, this was a season to forget for Prithvi Shaw. While he does have the talent to go big, releasing him will provide DC with an opportunity to look for a more consistent performer.

2. Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey managed to score a mere 160 runs in his 10 matches at a strike rate of 109.59 with a dismal average of just 17.78. Pandey’s last successful season was in 2020 where he scored 425 runs in 16 matches. It is sad that the veteran hasn’t been able to produce a tournament-winning performance and he might not make it to the Capitals’ squad next season. Releasing Pandey will allow DC to free up some purse amount and the management will look to replace him with a young domestic player.

3. Priyam Garg

After failing to contribute for SRH, former U-19 captain Priyam Garg didn’t offer much to the Delhi Capitals as a replacement either. He scored just 22 runs in his two matches and doesn’t seem like the best fit for DC moving ahead.

4. Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman seems to have lost his ‘fizz’ considering he picked just one wicket in the two matches he played this year and a mere 8 in IPL 2022. Once considered a lethal lefty, Mustafizur has failed to curtail his economy rates. In his entire IPL career, he’s picked only 47 wickets in 48 matches. So, Rahman will be on DC’s released player list.
