RCB in 2023; Shubman Gill and his sister
No matter how good a team or a player does, on social media, there are always mixed reactions. Although criticism to some level is considered healthy, some fans cross the line while abusing a team or a player by using offensive language.
Gujarat Titans batsman Shubman Gill is considered a star in the making, for he has been breaking and creating batting records for India as well as for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. His scintillating yesterday not only displayed how dominating GT is but knocked out RCB of the cash-rich league as well.
His century garnered praise from all corners, but some RCB fans couldn’t digest their team’s defeat and eventually started targeting Gill on social media. The comment section is filled with nasty messages criticizing Gill for that century.
But not just Gill, his sister Shahneel Gill was also abused online by the trolls. After the win, she posted a picture of her brother celebrating his second IPL century with the caption: “My babyyy“. Many other fans took to Twitter to show dismay over ‘today’s youth’s’ derogatory behavior on the Internet and slammed them as well.

Fans say trolls shouldn’t deserve to call themselves cricket fans after abusing Shubman Gill and his sister
Now, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women or DCW Swati Maliwal shared the screenshots of some of the Twitter users who trolled Gill’s sister and said that DCW will take action against the trolls. “This shall not be tolerated!” Maliwal wrote.
“Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubmanGill’s sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli daughter…,” she added.
Meanwhile, in that match, RCB were asked to bat first, and with Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 101 off 61 (with 13 boundaries and a six), they totaled 197/5 in 20 overs. For Titans, Gill racked up an unbeaten 104 off 52 with five boundaries and eight maximums at a strike rate of 200.
Apart from the Punjab-born batsman, Vijay Shankar also hammered his half-century (53 off 35 balls) to chase down the target in 19.1 overs, the result of which saw RCB getting knocked out of the tournament.
The defending champions will now face four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday (May 22) in the first playoffs.
