In a podcast, he revealed when he was touring India, Kohli spat at him. While facing Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian captain spat at him. Elgar did not take it well, threatening him to beat him with his bat.
In India those wickets were jokes. I came into bat and I was actually holding my own against Ashwin and Jadeja, and Kohli, he like spat at me. I said to him, 'If you do that, I’ll f*****g *** you with this bat'.Dean Elgar on Banter with the Boys

Kohli had called up the South African and asked if they could talk over drinks after the end of the series. They met and Kohli apologized for his actions and the two ended up drinking till 3 am.
He (Kohli) calls me aside playing South Africa and said ‘can we go have a drink at the end of the series? I want to just apologize for my actions’. Two years later in South Africa, he says he wants to apologize for what he did. We had a drink, punchline is we drank till 3 am in the morning.
