Deepak Hooda produced power-hitting in the 2nd T20I against Ireland on June 29 at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Dublin. He smacked his maiden international hundred in the shortest format, becoming the fourth Indian to do so.
Indian skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first. He played just 57 balls to score 104 runs and showed that he belonged to the big stage. Sanju Samson wasn’t picked in the Indian team for the first T20I but he was given the opportunity, he used it responsibly. Injured Ruturaj Gaikwad’s replacement Sanju Samson equally supported him not just by scoring one or two runs but played a knock of 77 runs off 42 balls with nine boundaries and four sixes, which helped India post 225/7.
Deepak Hooda looked elegant at the crease playing shots from frontfoot and backfoot. He smashed nine boundaries and four sixes over the fence.
But India didn’t have a best start because the opener Ishan Kishan walked back in the third over off Mark Adair’s delivery. India’s score read 13/1 when Hooda and Samson joined hands and duo batted comfortably. No Irish bowlers could stop the duo as they completed their half-century in no time. They stood at the crease, making a partnership pf 176 runs off just 85 balls, highest for any wicket for Team India in T20I.
After the fall of Samson, Suryakumar Yadav entered the field and right from the first ball, he kept hitting and scored 15 runs off just four balls. India then lost a cluster of wickets, first was Hooda, Dinesh Karthik (0), Axar Patel (0), and Harshal Patel (0). Hardik Pandya scored 15* off nine balls to ensure Men in Blue reach 227/7 in their 20 overs.
Twitterverse as usual couldn’t stay calm when they watched such a fine innings played by the Indians. They stormed the internet with their praises for Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson.
