If Rohit Sharma‘s removal as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain was not enough to send shockwaves, the latest news will. Rohit will play under Hardik Pandya in the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but will Rohit go to Delhi Capitals (DC) and lead their team?
According to Sports Today, DC want Rohit to handle the leadership duties and also communicated the same to MI as well. Rishabh Pant, who used to lead DC, can make his comeback to the IPL as an Impact Player, so DC are in search of a captain. MI, who don’t usually let go of their players, declined the offer.
To make the all-cash trade deal to secure Pandya a success, MI had to trade all-rounder Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and received INR 17.50 crore, which was enough to sign Pandya again. Pandya was in talks with MI for a long time due to his differences with Gujarat Titans (GT), the team he led to glory in their first appearance in IPL 2022 and took them to the final again the next year.
With MI, Pandya clinched four titles after joining the franchise in 2015. But before the mega auction for IPL 2022, MI did not retain him with GT roping him in and making him the captain. After the success of the franchise, Pandya was looked upon as the best option as India captain in the T20 format.
Suryakumar Yadav’s reaction after Rohit Sharma’s MI captaincy removal goes viral
Suryakumar Yadav has been playing for MI for a long time. He made his debut for the franchise and in the IPL in 2012, playing just one game.
In 2014, he represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and was back with the Blue Jerseys again in 2018. He was retained by the franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auctions.
He played all his matches for MI under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and as the news came out that the veteran batter would no longer lead the side, SKY posted a heartbreak emoticon on X, which has now gone viral.
