On 29th March, Kolkata Knight Riders faced rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 IPL. Many expected a close match, but were left disappointed as KKR won it by eight wickets.
Although the game saw a dominating performance by the visitors, the highlight of the match was Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir hugging each other and having a small chat. It occurred during the strategic timeout after the 16th over, and the two former rivals were smiling while they chatted.
Seeing what happened during the match, the Delhi Police X account uploaded a meme. In the meme, they tried spreading awareness about the emergency number 112 and asked their citizens to ensure no fight gets big and serious.
Jagada hua? Dial 112 aur jhagde ko shaant karo! Koi jhagda Virat ya Gambhir nahi (A fight occurred? Dial 112 and stop the fight! No fight has to be big or deep).Delhi Police wrote on X
Even the Uttar Pradesh X account made a meme on the hug. They referenced a tweet they made the previous IPL season, when Kohli and Gambhir had a fight. In the new tweet, they reminded citizens that they should contact the police and not escalate any fight.
Irfan Pathan reveals Gautam Gambhir initiated the hug
When fans saw Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir hugging it out, many fans wondered who approached who. Some fans claimed it was Kohli, who had already cleared things out with Naveen-ul-Haq. On the other side, some claimed it was Gambhir. Irfan Pathan, who was in the comms box for the match, revealed it was Gambhir who actually went up to Kohli.
Gautam Gambhir, the senior guy, actually came forward. Sometimes you cross the line but as soon as that thing has gone past, when you meet in the future, when you meet now, you meet nicely.Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports
Kohli scored an unbeaten 83* in the match, which saw him get the orange cap. Unfortunately, the loss meant RCB dropped to 6th place. KKR jumped to 2nd, tied on points with Chennai Super Kings but below thanks to their net run rate.
