Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s unimpressive streak in ODIs, former Indian pacer, RP Singh believes that he is a good pick as India’s number 4 for the ODI World Cup. India’s first match in the World Cup is scheduled on 8th October against Australia.
The number 4 position in ODIs has been haunting team India for a really long time now, with the 2019 World Cup being a major failed example. India’s major concern moving into the 2023 ODI World Cup definitely has to be solving the long-due number four mystery.
Suryakumar Yadav has a massive range of shots and holds immense capability to play crucial knocks. However, he has not been able to translate his talent as well in ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav has 452 runs from the 24 ODIs that he has played for India at an average of 23.78. Despite this, RP Singh backs SKY to be India’s number 4.

RP Singh fancies Suryakumar Yadav and Umran Malik for ODI World Cup
While backing Suryakumar Yadav to make it into the ODI World Cup squad, the former pacer said, “Suryakumar Yadav is a good option for No. 4, along with Shreyas, provided he is fit. But if you are looking at him even as a backup option, it is important to give him game-time, and he is certainly a good pick.”
RP Singh also commented on Umran Malik as a possible option for the World Cup. He said, “You cannot have someone playing one match and then sitting out for two. If you think Umran is a long-term option, then he has to be polished accordingly.”
Singh believes these players must be given more game time and constant backing by the BCCI as they possess the abilities to be big match players for India in the all-important 2023 ODI World Cup.
