South Africa cricket boards has announced its squad for the highly anticipated limited-overs home series against Australia. There will be three intriguing T20Is and a five-match ODI series between these two cricketing giants. This newly formed squad features some intriguing additions, with the eccentric batsman Dewald Brevis drawing the most attention as he receives his first call-up for both series.

Since his outstanding performance in the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Dewald Brevis, affectionately nicknamed “Baby AB” for his batting technique resembling AB de Villiers, has generated considerable buzz. With two centuries and three fifties, he scored over 500 runs and earned the  title of ‘Player of the Tournament.’ Brevis exhibited his talent in numerous T20 leagues around the world, including appearances in IPL’s Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, and MI New York.

Donovan Fereira and pacer Gerald Coetzee will be added to the T20I squad for the T20 series, which begins on 30 August. As the team prepares for the ODI World Cup, notable players such as Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Heinrich Klaasen will be given a well-deserved break.

This series is significant because it is South Africa’s last white-ball test before the 2023 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India. The team’s strategy appears to be centered on maximizing the growing talent of Dewald Brevis, whose reputation as a versatile ‘360 player’ with both bat and ball holds tremendous potential.
