India’s wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik took the internet by storm on Tuesday (8 August) as the veteran cricketer confirmed his participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Karthik has not played for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup where he could not grab the opportunity after staging a fairytale comeback.

Dinesh Karthik was a part of the 2019 World Cup squad. Now, as India struggle to get KL Rahul fit for the quadrennial showpiece event, a fan shared a poll on Twitter about who should be India’s wicketkeeper at the 2023 ODI World Cup. KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson were the three options. However, a user mentioned Karthik’s name.

This prompted an interesting reply from the 38-year-old. Karthik assured his fan that he will surely be a part of the tournament but he did not confirm in what capacity. “You’ll see me in the World Cup for sure is what I can say,” tweeted Karthik.

Dinesh Karthik returning to action on the cricket field seems impossible considering he is not actively playing any form of cricket. So, there are no chances of Karthik making it into India’s ODI World Cup squad. However, the 38-year-old can take part in the tournament as a commentator.

The Indian wicketkeeper has an active contract with Sky Sports and recently commentated in the Ashes. So, Dinesh Karthik can be roped in as a commentator by the broadcasters. The 38-year-old might be indicating the same through his tweet.

Talking about India’s wicketkeeping options at the ODI World Cup, KL Rahul is racing against time to be fit for the tournament while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are being tested in different conditions. The Indian team management has kept all options open for now.
