‘He needs to display more intent’ – Dinesh Karthik questions Kane Williamson’s knock

Cricketer turned commentator Dinesh Karthik has questioned New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s intent with the bat after his knock in the second T20I against India on Sunday (November 20). He believes the right-handed batter needs to bat with more intent, especially while chasing in T20.
While chasing a target of 192, Williamson scored 61 runs, taking 52 balls. Although one could argue that no other batter provided any help, his knock wasn’t making the game for the Kiwis either. “Kane Williamson needs to display more intent, especially while it’s a chase,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz show.
It’s not the first time that Williamson has come under scrutiny for his poor strike-rate. Even in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, he was far from being the best version of himself. He scored 178 runs in five games at an unacceptable strike-rate of 116.33.
Kane Williamson ruled out of third T20I

Kane Williamson will miss the third and final T20I game of the ongoing series on Tuesday (November 22) as he will attend a pre-booked medical appointment. Anyway, there were reports earlier that he would miss some part of the assignment to manage his workload.
“Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule. The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland”, NZ Cricket said in an official statement ahead of the third T20I.

Veteran pacer Tim Southee will take up the leading duties in the absence of Williamson. However, the 32-year-old will be back in the squad for the three ODIs. The T20I series currently stands in favor of the Men in Blue. Hence, the Blacks Caps will put on their everything to at least settle for a tie.
