“Does it make sense…”- Dinesh Karthik to organizers for making Arunachal Pradesh clash against an elite team like Tamil Nadu in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Dinesh Karthik to organizers for making Arunachal Pradesh clash against elite team like Tamil Nadu in Vijay Hazare Trophy
When Tamil Nadu clashed against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, many records were broken when the former posted 506/2 in 50 overs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, November 21. Tamil Nadu’s score surpassed England’s 498, which they posted against the Netherlands in an ODI.
The player behind the total was Narayan Jagadeesan, who slammed his fifth consecutive century to become the first cricketer in history to do so. He broke a series of records with his knock of 277 runs off 114 balls. He stitched a 416-run stand with Sai Sudarshan, who also smashed a ton (154) runs to create the record for the highest-ever partnership in the history of List A cricket.
Chasing the 507-run target, Arunachal Pradesh could score just a mere 71 runs. Tamil Nadu’s Manimaran Siddarth scalped five wickets, while M Mohammed and R Silambarasan took two wickets each.
Wishes started pouring in for the performance the players displayed. India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik also congratulated the players in one tweet, but in his next tweet, he questioned the organizers for making an elite team like Tamil Nadu play against Arunachal Pradesh.
Dinesh Karthik wants north-east teams to play in a separate group
Following the records by N Jagadeesan, Dinesh Karthik wrote: “WORLD RECORD alert! What an amazing effort by @Jagadeesan_200. Couldn’t be happier for him. Big things await #5outta5. Sai Sudarshan what an amazing tournament so far. This opening combo is killing it. Well done boys @TNCCricket #VijayHazareTrophy,” tweeted Karthik.
In another tweet, Karthik wrote: “Also on another side note. Does it make sense to have the northeast teams play the elite teams in the league phase. It just topples the run rates of teams and imagine if a match against one of these teams gets rained off! Can’t they have a separate group and qualify?“
Notably, 38 teams are participating in the ongoing tournament; they are divided into five groups. Every northeast team is included in the five groups.
