Hardik Pandya‘s quickfire at the end of the innings helped India post a massive score of 211 in 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. In the last over, Hardik Pandya refused to take a single and give strik to Dinesh Karthik. However, the Proteas clinch the victory by seven wickets with the knocks of David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen, ending India’s winning streaks in T20.

Ishan Kishan was the star performer who played a knock of 76 runs off 48 balls. Vice-captain Pandya and captain Rishabh Pant then anchored the innings. After Pant’s departure, Dinesh Karthik joined in the end. Karthik is also making a comeback to Indian cricket; was picked up in the squad of five-match T20I against South Africa. He made into the squad after displaying his heroics while representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022, which also awarded him with Super Striker of the Season. After three long years, Karthik played his first international match against the Proteas. But, in the penultimate over, Hardik Pandya refused to give him strike.

Reacting to the incident, former India bowler Ashish Nehra showed his dissapointment and in a sarcastic way said on Cricbuzz,“He should have taken a single in that final over. Dinesh Karthik was at the other end, it wasn’t me.”

Hardik Pandya is someone who can play all kinds of roles. He has got every type of batting up his sleeve. We have seen him performing in Tests and ODIs as well. With his batting ability, he can perhaps bat at any position… be it No.3 or 4 spot. He was captain for Gujarat and contributed with the ball as well. It was a different role. Before that, he wasn’t bowling much and was batting down the order. He is back in his old role tonight… but he has got the ability to pull off any role with ease,” Nehra further added.
