“Does he say the same about Rohit Sharma?”- Matthew Hayden on Ravi Shastri’s suggestion for Virat Kohli to take a break

“Does he say the same about Rohit Sharma?”- Matthew Hayden on Ravi Shastri’s suggestion for Virat Kohli to take a break

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been struggling a lot in IPL and it’s clearly seen when they are getting duck outs often and are even unable to score half-centuries.

Virat Kohli has three golden ducks to his name in 12 matches and has scored just 216 runs at a mere average of 18.63 and a strike rate of 111.34, so low when compared to the Virat Kohli who had scored 973 runs in a season in 2016.

Covid outbreak and the bio-bubble must have taken a toll on these top players of the game and it is because of this that some players have opted out of this year’s IPL due to bio-bubble fatigue.

Former Indian coach and cricketer Ravi Shastri has often suggested that Virat Kohli should take a break and that he is ‘overcooked’; it’s the right time to take one to relax a bit which will help him to get back in form. ICC T20 World Cup will be played in Australia later this year, but before that there will be international matches for India and Virat might not get a break from it.

“I am going straight to the main guy here. Virat Kohli is overcooked. If anyone needs a break, it’s him,” Shastri told Star Sports.

The debate about whether Virat Kohli should take a break had again popped up when Kohli was sent back for a golden duck for a third time while playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle recalled then about what Shastri had said about Kohli. His co-commentator Matthew Hayden then asked if Shastri thinks the same about Rohit Sharma too.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has scored 200 runs so far in 11 matches with the highest score of 43, average of 18.18 and a strike rate of 125. So, Hayden then pointed out that these two high prolific cricketers have been playing for a long time.

“Does he say the same about Rohit Sharma? I mean these guys are playing cricket all the time, of course these tournaments, they come around so quickly, you get yourself into a mental space and Kohli has been brilliant at it for so many years, so animated, so passionate. To come off that though just for a moment and you are under pressure,” Hayden said

Then Harsha Bhogle clarified why Shastri only brought up Virat Kohli.

“The only reason I brought that up, Ravi and Virat have known each other so well over the last 3-4 years, have run a lot of campaigns together, been very good at Test cricket. He knows the inner mind,” Bhogle said
