“Does IPL have a clause?” Eden Gardens curator slams KKR captain Nitish Rana for demanding home advantage
The pitch at Eden Gardens used to aid spinners till a few years back. However, it has all changed of late.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana has been seemingly disappointed with the kind of wickets produced by Eden Garden curators. Rana openly said that KKR is the only team which does not enjoy home advantage. Meanwhile, the head curator of the stadium has hit back at Rana for his comments saying they are not bound to make wickets which favour the home team.
Sujan Mukherjee has raised questions about Rana’s comments as he asked if there is any clause as such in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Rule Book which makes it mandatory to produce wickets which aid the home teams. The Eden Gardens head curator also gave an answer to Nitish Rana as he explained the reason behind their inability to produce slow and turning tracks.
“IPL is not played on home advantage, and the captain may say anything he wants,” Mukherjee was quoted saying by The Indian Express. “Does IPL have a clause where it is written that pitches have to be produced according to the wishes of the IPL franchise?”

“There are a lot of problems which I cannot talk about, and changing the pitch for KKR is not easy,” said the pitch curator. “Look at other IPL teams, like RCB and DC; they do not talk or complain about home advantage. They play on what is provided to them,” Mukherjee added.
Non-spin-friendly pitches hurting KKR
The pitch at Eden Gardens used to aid spinners till a few years back. However, it has all changed of late. The track at Eden Gardens is now known to be flat and full of runs in the IPL and in domestic cricket, it helps pacers with its greenish tinge. Even during Ranji season, the pacers get more help from the surface.
Meanwhile, KKR’s bowling attack is spin dominated with the likes of Varin Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Suyash Sharma leading the charts. But with non-spin-friendly pitches, KKR have struggled to dominate the opposition at home. The Nitish Rana-led side have lost four out of six matches played at Eden Gardens. And now, with a must-win game scheduled at the same venue, it will be interesting to see how the two-time champions perform.
