If the ECB wants to revamp its domestic cricket, then they have to execute the same after 2025 or 2028 because of the current broadcast deals.

After the success of South Africa’s SA20 and UAE’s ILT20, and recently the lucrative tournament of USA’s Major League Cricket, the England Cricket Board (ECB) is thinking to scrap the T20 Blast and The Hundred. Instead of these events, the ECB may introduce another T20 league.
The official confirmation regarding this plan has not been made yet by the ECB. According to The Times’ report, the reason why England wants to make massive changes to its domestic cricket is their failure to be as successful as leagues like the ILT20, SA20, MLC, and not to forget, the Indian Premier League (IPL). Some IPL franchises own the teams in all these leagues except The Hundred and T20 Blast.
Currently, ECB owns all the teams in the domestic circuit. They are planning to start a league with 18 counties with private owners. If the ECB wants to revamp its domestic cricket, then they have to execute the same after 2025 or 2028 because of the current broadcast deals.
Glenn Maxwell anticipating MLC to affect England’s leagues badly
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell represented the Birmingham Bears in the Vitality T20 Blast. And he opined that the USA’s MLC, it’s going to hurt England’s tournaments citing a stressful schedule.
“I think now the Major League Cricket tournament’s come in, that’s going to affect the Blast really badly,” Maxwell said on BBC radio. He added that players have to play under a strict schedule due to which they will prefer going to America for two weeks rather than to the UK.
Maxwell said that in one week, they played in Durham, then traveled to Leeds, before landing in Birmingham- all for three games in four days. If cricketers are playing under such conditions, then they will indeed sign contracts with those leagues which are lucrative as well as free of such hassle. At the same time, it will be interesting to see how ECB deals with its domestic matches as well as to see if MLC thrives in the United States.
