According to several reports, eight men’s franchises have shown interest to own the teams in the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 league (WIPL). There will be five teams for the WIPL and the eight franchises will race to own them.

The interested bidders are the likes of Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Sunriders Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals. These interested bidders needed to submit their questions until January 13. The names of the franchises are slated to be revealed on January 25th. The required net worth of a bidder as per BCCI’s tender document is Rs 1000 crore as of March 31, 2022.

Matches of the WIPL will be played in ten stadiums according to reports. They are- Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, MA Chidambaram in Chennai, M Chinnaswamy in Bangaluru, Arun Jaitley in Delhi, HPCA in Dharamsala, Barsapara in Guwahati, Holkar stadium in Indore, AB Vajpayee Ekana stadium in Lucknow, and Wankhede, DY Patil and Brabourne stadiums in Mumbai.

Establishing a stable, successful, financially secure, long-term Franchise to participate in the League; ensuring the widest coverage and the widest possible audience for the League; assisting in the development of the game of women’s cricket in India at all levels; maximizing and enhancing exposure, wherever possible, for each of the official sponsors of the League; increasing and enhancing exposure for women’s cricket in India both within India and the rest of the world,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India wants these objectives in a successful bidder. Joint ventures and consortiums are not eligible.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has not yet announced the dates for the inaugural season. But it is expected to start around March 5 and end around March 23. Also, the bids will be for a 10-year period and there is no base price set.
