Australia women’s all-rounder Ellyse Perry suffered a major heartbreak on Thursday as she was dismissed one shy of a century during The Women’s Ashes Test. Perry, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), was dismissed by Lauren Flier when she was going strong and nearing her third Test century.
The Australia all-rounder handed a catch to Nat Sciver Brunt in the backward point region as Perry tried to steer a short-length delivery from Flier. Although the batter timed her shot to perfection, she could not get the placement right and it was a straightforward chance for Brunt.
Perry was dejected as ever and stood in shock for a while before she took the long walk back to the pavilion.
After Ellyse Perry’s 99, Annabel Sutherland puts on a show but Sophie Ecclestone also shines
Talking about Australia’s first inning, the visitors put on an emphatic batting performance. The Alyssa Healy-led team scored 473/10 in their first inning. Apart from Perry, Annabel Sutherland stole the show as she scored an unbeaten 137. The Australia batter played some attacking shots and notched up her maiden Test century.
Although she batted with the tailenders, Sutherland was clear in her approach and took the inning deep. In the end, she fell short of partners and Darcie Brown was dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone who also had a terrific outing.
The England spinner claimed a five-wicket haul and helped her team stop Australia from scoring a massive first-inning total. Ecclestone got rid of Tahlia McGrath, Jess Jonassen, Alyssa Healy, Kim Garth, and Darcie Brown to complete her fifer.
