England Cricket Board has announced its 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 which will start in October in Australia on Friday, September 2022. Opener Jason Roy has been dropped while Dawid Malan has earned his call.

In Roy’s place, Phil Salt will bat. Salt has made his debut earlier this year. Roy has played 11 T20I since the final of T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2021 and has scored 206 runs at an average of 18.72.

While Malan has impressed all during the South Africa series. He is also The Hundred’s leading run-scorer so far, with 358 runs at 59.66. This year, his strike rate read 148.27 in T20Is and is a better replacement for Eoin Morgan.

As Morgan announced his retirement recently, it will also be Jos Buttler‘s first major tournament as a captain.

Pacers Chirs Woakes and Mark Wood made their return to the team, are included in the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and IT20 tour of Pakistan in September.

While Tymal Mills has not been included in the starting line-up but as a travelling reserve along with Liam Dawson and Richard Gleeson. Mills was also the leading wicket-taker from the last tournament until his injury ruled him out. Bairstow ruled out of 3rd Test v SA and T20 World Cup after sustaining a lower limb injury in a freak accident whilst playing golf.

England will start its campaign against Afghanistan on October 22 in Perth.

The England squad for T20 World cup 2022: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood.

Travel Reserve: Tymal Mills, Liam Dawson, and Richard Gleeson
