“Bulls****ing about Spirit of Game???”- Twitter lambastes Matthew Wade’s ‘field obstruction’ as England thrash Australia by 8 runs in the 1st T20I
Jos Buttler and Alex Hales
The two rival countries- England and Australia- clashed against each other for a three-match T20I series. In the first T20I, Jos Buttler’s Englishmen thrashed Aaron Finch’s Australia by eight runs in a thrilling encounter on October 9 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, leading the series by 1-0.
Being asked to bat first, openers Alex Hales and Buttler smashed half-centuries to propel England’s score to 208/6 in 20 overs. Hales smashed 12 fours and three sixes to score a 51-ball 84 runs at a strike rate of 164.71, getting out in the 16th over off bowler Kane Richardson. Buttler scored 68 runs off just 32 balls with eight fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 212.50 before Nathan Ellis dismissed him with a length ball. Other English batters couldn’t add much to the innings, still, England was able to put a massive target of 209.
In Australia’s response, opener David Warner smashed 73 runs off 44 balls with eight fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 165.91 and was dismissed in the 17th over from Mark Wood’s ball. Young sensation Cameron Green failed today but Mitchell Marsh scored 36 runs off 26 balls (with three fours and two sixes), while skipper Aaron Finch, who is not in a good form, could contribute just 12 runs.
Tim David was dismissed on duck off Wood, while wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, who would have taken Australia to victory was dismissed in 19.3 over by Sam Curran, and that’s when England took full control of the momentum. Only bowlers were left and dismissed Ellis on the last ball of the second innings, England won the first T20I by eight runs to lead the three-match series by 1-0.
