England cricket team, on Day 3 of the fifth Ashes Test on Saturday (July 29) at The Oval in London, swapped their jerseys. They did it to show their support for dementia patients, a disease that robs humans of their memories.

One can see the English players donning jerseys with incorrect names on them. Moeen Ali wore the jersey of Chris Woakes, James Anderson donned Stuart Broad’s jersey, and Ben Stokes‘ name appears on Jonny Bairstow’s jersey.

We are here supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, and it is a subject very close to our hearts. It is a terrible disease,” said England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick while talking to Sky Sports.

He added that the gesture will help to spread awareness, educate people and raise money so that there will be more research on Alzheimer’s. Also, Trescothick has a personal reason to associate himself with the move as his father Martyn Trescothick also has dementia.

England were leading by 18 runs when they started Day 3 of the ongoing fifth Ashes series. They have now put themselves in a decent position as they have scored 198 runs for two wickets in 38 overs so far.

Zak Crawley (73 off 76) and Ben Duckett (42 off 55) have lost their wickets. At the crease, Ben Stokes (42* off 65) and Joe Root (35 off 34) are playing. Pat Cummins dismissed Crawley, while Mitchell Starc got rid of Duckett.

England would try to save themselves from defeat in this match as Australia are already leading the five-match series 2-1. Pat Cummins and Co. won the first two Tests, while the hosts secured the victory in the third Test. The fourth Test ended in a draw and if England lose this match or if the match ends in a draw, then Australia, who have already retained the Ashes will win the series on English soil for the first time since 2001.
