In what comes as a shocking and surprising development in England cricket, veteran pacer Stuart Broad announced his retirement from Test cricket. Broad, who represented England in 167 Tests and scalped over 840 International wickets announced his retirement after the end of Day 3 of the fifth Ashes Test.
“The England & Wales Cricket Board would like to thank Stuart for his incredible dedication and contribution to English Cricket and we wish him well for the remainder of his final Test match and the future,” announced England and Wales Cricket Board on Saturday.
Broad who is taking part in the fifth Ashes Test will bid farewell after the series is over. “Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket,” Broad told Sky Sports Cricket at the close of play on day three.
“It’s been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge as much as I have. I’m loving cricket as much as I ever have, it’s been a wonderful series to be a part of and I’ve always wanted to finish at the top. This series feels like it has been the most wonderful and entertaining to be a part of.”

Stuart Broad- one of the greats if not the greatest in Test cricket
Talking about Stuart Broad Test career, it has been nothing short of legendary. The right-arm pacer who always lived in the shadows of another English great- James Anderson, always put his hands up whenever the team needed him. Broad has scalped exactly 600 wickets in Test cricket and stands a chance to add a few more as England will bowl in the fourth inning of the fifth Ashes Test.
While Broad could not translate his performance from red-ball cricket into white-ball cricket, the 37-year-old will still be counted as one of the greats to have played the game. Claiming 600 wickets in Tests and that too at an average of 27.68 is not easy. Broad was also handy with the bat as the leftie has over 3500 runs in Tests.
