Cricket fans on social media are divided over a strange incident that happened during that Melbourne club cricket game. Even though the middle stump had been disturbed, the bails stayed intact in their position on the stumps.

The image of the same has gone viral. The umpire’s verdict came in favor of the better as the bails did not fall and the middle stump did not get completely uprooted.

While some fans said the umpire made the right decision by not dismissing the batter, others criticized the umpires, saying the bails shouldn’t be kept on the stumps tightly.

What does the law of cricket say regarding this matter?

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)’s Law 29 says if the ball is completely removed or the stump gets uprooted, then the batter is out. If the bail doesn’t dislodge from the unbroken stumps, then the batter should be given not-out.

The wicket is broken fairly if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground. The disturbance of bail, whether temporary or not, shall not constitute its complete removal from the top of the stumps, but if a bail is falling lodges between two of the stumps, this shall be regarded as complete removal.
Law 29 of the MCC’s Laws of Cricket says

In this case, the umpire has made the right decision as per the law. The middle stump got disturbed a bit but not completely removed, and the bails stayed in their position.
