The third Test of the Ashes has started and the debate surrounding the ‘spirit of cricket’ doesn’t seem to stop post that Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal by keeper Alex Carey at the Lord’s in London during the second Ashes Test. Now, former Australia spinner Xavier Doherty lambasted England for their reckless Bazball which hasn’t been impressive so far in the Test, as well as criticized the hosts for making excuses by calling the Aussies cheats after the controversial but legal dismissal.

Doherty feels barring English skipper Ben Stokes, other batters are playing reckless cricket. He also opined that the cricket crowd has been turning into a football crowd with chants of abuse and that England are in their own world due to this Bazball.

It’s just this unaccountable mindset that they’ve got, the rules don’t apply to us anymore so we’ll do and say whatever we feel like and then we’ll be the upholders of the spirit of cricket and we’ll tell other people what they should be doing,” he said on SEN Tassie.

Doherty, 40, made his debut for Australia in 2010. He has played four Tests, 60 ODIs, and 11 T20Is for the national side.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan once again expressed his disappointment over the way England are playing Test cricket against Australia. Vaughan, with stats, pointed out a major flaw in England’s batting. He tweeted that 13 out of the last 24 wickets the Aussie seamers have taken, were due to the pull shots.

Here’s his tweet:

Though England has been counter-attacking, it’s Australia who have secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series. The visitors won the first and second Test by two wickets and 43 runs respectively. The third Test underway at Headingley, Leeds, and Australia have so far scored 116 runs for four wickets, leading by 142 runs.
