David Warner‘s wife Candice Warner made shocking allegations about Cricket Australia for their lack of support for the cricketer after that infamous ball-tempering scandal in the South Africa tour in 2017 in a recent podcast. She accused CA that they had left the family to fend for themselves despite his services to the team for many years.

Earlier, in a news debate, Candice extended her support to her husband who has been dealing with a lean patch in Test cricket. She opined that the 36-year-old has been singled out in facing fans’ criticism.

Warner was recently picked in the squads for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India and the first two Ashes Tests. But this call left many raising their eyebrows due to his present form. Candice stated that the Australian team doesn’t have a better option than Warner.

About Warner’s present form, Candice, on Fox Sports’ The Back Page, said: “If Dave doesn’t perform in that first Test, who do they bring in that’s better?” She asserted that Warner does need to start the campaign well but so does the whole team.

But her comments irked former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson who cited the examples of Dennis Lillee and Ricky Ponting to suggest that player’s former achievements shouldn’t decide whether they should be still playing for the team. Johnson said if such had been the case, then Lillee would have still bowling for Australia and Ponting would still be batting for the team.

We’ve all appreciated Warner’s tremendous career as an opener and what he’s achieved. But that’s not what’s about,” Johnson wrote in his latest column for The West Australia.

Her loyalty might be admirable but it was all a bit weird and cringy when she said if Dave doesn’t perform in that first Test, who do they bring in that’s better? I hate that argument,” Johnson added.
