Since 2011, Rohit Sharma has been playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. In 2013, he replaced Ricky Ponting as the MI captain and led them to five IPL titles, the joint-most by any captain. He held the position till 2023, being sacked for Hardik Pandya. 

With the Mega-Auction soon to come in 2025, many have speculated that the Indian captain could leave MI soon. Former Indian batter, Ambati Rayudu, believes Sharma should join Chennai Super Kings as MS Dhoni’s successor.

I want to see him play for CSK in the near future. He has played so long for Mumbai Indians. It would be nice if he can play for CSK and win there as well. That's (captaincy at CSK) upon him. Rohit has earned the right to take that call. It's his call on whether or not he wants to lead or not.

In the 11 seasons Sharma has captained the Mumbai Indians, he has won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. In the past three seasons, MI failed to qualify for the 2021 and 2022 playoffs, but got in the 2023 Eliminators. 

MS Dhoni joins pre-season CSK camp 

MS Dhoni has joined the pre-season camp held by the Chennai Super Kings in preparation for the 2024 IPL. He joined in the first week of March, after attending Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding event in Jamnagar.

CSK uploaded pictures of the former Indian captain practicing in the nets along with his teammates. CSK will play the 2024 IPL opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chepauk Stadium. Out of the four CSK matches announced, they will play two home and two away.
