Virat Kohli has taken an infinite break from cricket due to the birth of his second child, Akaay Kohli. As India don’t have an international assignment for two months, Kohli will make a comeback to competitive cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is scheduled to start on March 22.

Kohli has played 237 matches and amassed 7263 at an average of 37.25 and a strike rate of 130.02. Though Kohli has smashed the most runs in the league, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh said Kohli’s greatness has been reduced at MA Chidambaram Stadium, the home ground of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The greatness of Virat has been reduced in terms of his overall performance at that venue. It is a tricky venue to bat, especially as an opening batsman against a sort of weird tennis ball-type bounce.

In Chennai, Kohli averages just 30 and has been batting at a strike rate of 111. Also, he has not yet scored a century at this stadium. From 30 matches, he scored just 985 runs, with the highest of 90.

Virat Kohli lauds IPL for helping players build camaraderie

The first match of IPL 2024 is considered to be a hit one as MS Dhoni‘s CSK will face Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Every time the two teams face each other, the cricket fraternity in India calls the match, Dhoni versus Kohli.

Weeks before the start of the IPL, Kohli praised the IPL, explaining the reason why fans love it. He feels IPL helps build camaraderie as players from across the world interact with each other, which is not seen in international cricket matches.

But in IPL, you're probably meeting every team just every second or third day, and that's the beauty of IPL.

Kohli’s best performance came in the 2016 season. From 16 matches, the 35-year-old collected a whopping 973 runs, the most by a player in the history of the league. He also slammed four centuries and guided RCB to the final but got defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
