Former England player Ravi Bopara recalled a time when Punjab Kings (PBKS) team owner Preity Zinta made aloo parathas for the players. During a recent interaction, Bopara thanked the Bollywood star for the breakfast she prepared for him.

Bopara joined PBKS in 2009. That year, IPL was played in South Africa due to the general elections.

As the players missed the Indian food, Zinta cooked aloo parathas for them. Bopara recalled Zinta asked him what he wanted for breakfast after he scored his highest score in a match. And as he said he wanted to eat the parathas, Zinta made it for him, for which the ex-England player is forever thankful.

The standout moment apart from winning, and getting my highest score, was when Preity Zinta cooked parathas for me. She made them with her own hands. When she asked me what I wanted for breakfast, I mentioned aloo parathas, and she graciously made them herself. I am forever thankful for that gesture.
Bopara said on FanCode’s IPL show ‘The Super Over

Even Zinta narrated the incident last year. On Star Sports, she revealed she promised to make the parathas only if they win the next match, which the team did and as a result, the actress “made 120 aloo parathas for the team.” Zinta also joked that after that incident, she stopped making the paranthas.

PBKS’s campaign so far in the 2024 IPL

PBKS played their first match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (PBKS) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Mohali. Capitals posted a decent 174/9 but the hosts won by four wickets after match-winning knocks from Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone.

They were on the cusp of winning the match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). But Virat Kohli’s 77 off 49 and onslaughts from Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik helped the team thrash the visitors at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

PBKS will now face KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. They are one of the teams that played since the inception of IPL in 2008 but never won a trophy.
