The 2023 Ashes has ended and it’s time for the critics to analyze the two sides. Australia, the new World Test Championship (WTC) winner fired on all cylinders in the first two Tests.
And England, in spite of all the criticism due to their sticking to Bazball mindset, continued to bat like the same throughout the series. And the result? They tied the five-match Test series 2-2.
The result of the series has led to the criticism of the Australian side who have failed to capitalize on their two-match victory advantage. Some critics on social media even pointed out that if it wasn’t for the rain in the fourth Test, England would have snatched the series win 3-2. And now former England skipper Michael Vaughan gave his verdict, saying Pat Cummins and Co. forgot their strength in front of the English side that played aggressive Test cricket.
“Meanwhile Pat Cummins and Australia have sent a message to England that they’re almost scared of them. They’ve been so, so worried about what England can do that at times they’ve forgotten about their own strengths,” Vaughan wrote in his column for the Telegraph. Vaughan added that the visitors got spooked by Bazball and even got defensive, letting England stick to their plans.
Michael Vaughan doubts England’s success with Bazball in India

After the Ashes, England’s next big challenge is a grueling five-match Test series in India next year. This will be for the first time, England with a Bazball mindset, will travel to India.
Unfazed by the outside noise regarding their approach, Ben Stokes and Co. stuck to their aggressive style and won series against New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan, and tied the Ashes. But their other test will be batting with the same mindset on India’s vicious turners.
Michael Vaughan, while speaking to Cricbuzz, said he doubts if England will win the series in India because of the slow pitches. Vaughan also expressed how it will be difficult for the English side to visit India without a world-class spinner but despite that, Vaughan feels England will play Bazball and will put Rohit Sharma and Co. under pressure.
