Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from cricket after Bengal’s last match in the Ranji Trophy, which was against Bihar. He has not played many international matches for India, and for this, he blames former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Tiwary played 287 runs in 12 ODIs, including an unbeaten 104 in 2011 against West Indies for which he got the Player of the Match award. However, despite his performances, Dhoni was dropped from the playing XI for the next couple of matches. When reporters asked Tiwary about his regrets during his international career, Tiwary questioned why Captain Cool dropped him.

I want to hear from him whenever I get the opportunity. I will definitely ask this question and I will ask him cordially. I would like to ask MS Dhoni why I was dropped from the team after scoring the century, especially in that tour of Australia where nobody was scoring runs, neither was Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Suresh Raina. I have nothing to lose now.
Tiwary said on the sidelines of his felicitation at Calcutta Sports Journalists’ Club in Kolkata

Tiwary added that despite playing 65 first-classes back then, he did not get the chance to feature in Test cricket. He asked why he did not earn a Test call-up despite scoring 93 against England in a friendly game. Tiwary said the selectors instead picked Yuvraj Singh, adding that when confidence is at its peak and someone destroys it, it “kills player.”

Manoj Tiwary opines that IPL has diminished the importance of the Ranji Trophy

Manoj Tiwary suggested Ranji Trophy should be scrapped off due to several reasons, one being the lack of proper infrastructure. He also feels the young players have adopted an IPL-centric mindset which has diminished the significance of the Ranji Trophy.

Tiwary then added that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may ban him for openly expressing his opinions. He disclosed that the BCCI had already slapped him with a 20 percent reduction of his match fee for his post on X where he wrote about the scrapping of the Ranji Trophy because of the lack of proper infrastructure.
