Shubman Gill shut his critics after he smacked his second century in the fifth Test against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Friday (March 8). In an important series like this, when Gill wasn’t able to play respectable knocks, he had to deal with intense criticism from fans and even some cricket pundits.

Gill used to be an opener in red-ball cricket, but he changed his batting position and now comes to bat at No. 3. But he had gone without a Test fifty in 12 innings until he finally managed to reach the mark in the second Test in Vizag by playing a 104-run knock.

In the next two Tests, the 24-year-old registered a duck and 91 runs and went on to score 38 and an unbeaten 52 respectively. Gill has been delivering for India consistently, but when he deals with a short lean patch, social media fans start to troll the youngster.

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif said fans should stop criticizing a player like Gill because he has the ability to soon make a comeback.

When criticizing a player like Shubman Gill, don't follow social media trends, think about his class. Top players can't be written off because of loss of form.

I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat private.
Gill said after the match

Gill was also involved in a heated exchange with Jonny Bairstow who asked the Indian batter what he told Anderson on Day 3 of the Test. India, meanwhile, won the series 4-1 after they bundled out England for 195 runs to win the fifth match by an innings and 64 runs.
