It has become easier to make a debut for India in current times, believes former India pacer Atul Wassan. Also, a team of youngsters led by comeback star Jasprit Bumrah went to Ireland to play a three-match T20I series. India narrowly registered the victory with a two-run win by Duckworth Lewis-Stern (DLS) method as rain washed away the match. Ireland, despite a flop start, held their nerves to put on 139/7 in 20 overs.
“The Indian cap has become very easy to get. We should watch that. I think good players should get a chance. There are so many teams in T10, T20, 50-over, etc. I think most players are getting a chance to play for the country,” Wassan told India.com.
Players’ performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as in other T20 leagues are helping them expose themselves to the national selectors. The Indian management is also experimenting with the team combination to prepare the players for the ODI World Cup. In the Ireland series, Rinku Singh and Prasidh Krishna earned their debut call.
Atul Wassan claims Jasprit Bumrah won’t be able to get to peak as before
Comeback man Jasprit Bumrah scalped two wickets in the first over itself to announce himself again. But Atul Wassan feels injury will hamper his growth and he won’t climb heights as before after making his comeback.
Bumrah last featured in an international match back in September 2022 and failed to get up due to his back stress fracture. After undergoing surgery and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he played his first match against Ireland. Wassan feels the 29-year-old’s injury is “bound to happen” in future if he continues bowling with the same intensity.
