Ex-Indian spinner, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, had critiqued R. Ashwin’s bowling action on his X account. What followed was a full on attack on the off-spinner’s skills and stats. The 57-year-old posted various tweets on X where he didn’t hold back his words.

It all started after he had criticized the commentator’s panel of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup as it didn’t have any spinners. A fan then asked him if Ashwin was a good selection, to which Sivaramakrishnan stated that the pitches had been doctored for Ashwin in test matches.

Sivaramakrishnan then followed that up with various personal attacks on Ashwin, calling him selfish, lazy, a liability and unfit. He said Ashwin always has excuses for every shortcoming and called him one of the biggest “bullsh*tters” in the world of cricket. He claimed any “fool” would get wickets in India and how he’s been below average in overseas countries. He also attacked Indian coach Rahul Dravid in his outbursts, saying the ex-Indian captain has ruined the game and is in his final days as head coach.

He claimed he was only attacking Ravichandran Ashwin as fans were defending the 38-year-old Indian legend. Sivaramakrishnan also started to speak about his time with Star Sports, for whom he used to work as a commentator. He called the job stressful and said he left as they paid him “peanuts.”

Ravichandran Ashwin calls up Laxman Sivaramakrishnan for advice

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan tweeted out that Ravichandran Ashwin had called him up to talk about his criticism of his bowling action. Sivaramakrishnan claimed that even Ashwin was unhappy with the way people treated the 57 year old on X. Ashwin further confirmed that all people that defended him were not connected to him, unlike what Sivaramakrishnan claimed.

Laxman Sivakumar played 9 tests and 16 ODIs for India, picking up 26 wickets in tests and 15 in ODIs. He made his international debut in 1983 as a 17 year old, but his international career only lasted for 4 years. He played his last match in the 1987 ODI World Cup

He started off his career with a bang, winning India tests at the age of 19 but unfortunately his decline had him out of the Indian squad in just 4 years. He started working as a commentator in 2000, just a year after he retired from all forms of cricket and now works as a coach.
