Shubman Gill is a rising star for India across all formats. He has already displayed his batting prowess in white-ball cricket but his batting in Tests is a bit debatable right now. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer feels Gill has to improve his batting a lot in the longest format at the No.3 position.
Gill approached coach Rahul Dravid and volunteered to come to bat at the No.3 position in the ongoing West Indies Test series. He used to open for India along with captain Rohit Sharma.
And though fans expected the 23-year-old to score a lot more runs like the other Indian batters, he ended up adding only six and 10 both the times he batted. That is why Jaffer feels Gill is a good choice as a number three batter in SENA countries but not in slow conditions.
“But in slow conditions, he has to alter his game and improve on it,” Jaffer said on JioCinema. He added that Gill needs to respect the conditions and learn and understand them.
Dinesh Karthik anticipates Shubman Gill to do something special in the long run
Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik thinks Shubman Gill can do special things for India in the long run despite his not scoring runs in recent times. Karthik recalled how no one really predicted a young Gill can achieve so much later when he started playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Karthik urged Gill’s critics to be patient and give him time.
Meanwhile, in the India versus West Indies series, India are in a strong position after they posted 438 runs on the scoreboard in their first innings. Virat Kohli top scored with 121 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma’s 80 and Ravindra Jadeja‘s 61. West Indies are trailing by 352 runs and will start Day 3 from 86/1.
