Virat Kohli is one of those sportsmen who would try everything to hone his skills and provide for the team with dedication. He will be next seen on the field during the 2023 Asia Cup match of India-Pakistan on Saturday (September 2) at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Ahead of the match, the discussion surrounding him started. Former Pakistan player Wahab Riaz, while drawing similarities between Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Virat Kohli, revealed that the former India captain was a funky boy during his initial days.
Kohli’s passion for the game as well as his commitment is well known. His strict way of living can help him prolong his cricketing career. At present, he stands second on the list of most international centuries with 76 tons, just behind Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries).
“I feel a similarity is their (Kohli and Babar) hunger to score runs for the country,” Riaz told Zalmi TV. “Virat was initially a funky guy who had come from the U19 World Cup. But then he changed his work ethic, sharing the dressing room with stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, and management to make a name for himself speaks volumes about his hunger.“
What is Virat Kohli’s record against Pakistan?
In 13 ODI matches against Pakistan, Virat Kohli scored 536 runs at an average of 48.73 and a strike rate of 96.22. His knocks also include two centuries and two fifties, with his highest score being a 183-run knock.
At the same time, the memorable India-Pakistan match at the T20 World Cup in 2022 has been etched in cricket fans’ minds because of Kohli’s insane knock. He scored an unbeaten 82 runs and guided India to a four-wicket victory after a last-over drama which also involved veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (who used his presence of mind and left a wide ball off Mohammad Nawaz).
