Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani cricketer, has been vocal about his support for those people belonging to the Hindu religion. Being the only second Hindu cricketer from Pakistan, Kaneria has often lauded India for things related to Hinduism.

The Lok Sabha elections are around the corner and ahead of it, the Indian government implemented the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Monday (March 11). Since the Parliament of India passed the CAA in 2019, citizens across India came out to the streets to protest against it, resulting in violence and even deaths.

Migrants from six different religions (Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, and Parsi) from Muslim-majority countries, who entered India before December 31, 2014, will be granted Indian citizenship. Because the category did not include Muslims, it led to controversy as critics blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for violating the secular principles of the constitution.

So Danish Kaneria, who is a Hindu living in Pakistan and who often revealed how he faced discrimination and mistreatment from his Muslim teammates during his time with the Pakistan national team, gave his opinion on the CAA. On X, he said that after the implementation of the CAA, Pakistani Hindus will be able to live freely. In another post, he also thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Pakistani Hindus will now be able to breathe in the open air.
