When Praveen Kumar broke out into the Domestic cricket scene, he was a highly rated swing bowler, who had great control over line and length. After making his India debut, the pacer was signed to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but against his wishes.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Kumar talked about how he was forced to play for RCB. He claimed he wanted to sign for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) as it was closer to his hometown of Meerut. Kumar was made to sign a document but was not told the contents of it. He signed it and found out it was the contract for RCB. When he once again said he wanted to play for Delhi, he got a call from Lalit Modi with a threat.
There was a person who made me sign a document. I did not know it was the contract. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bangalore. Lalit Modi called and threatened to end my career.Praveen Kumar told The Lallantop
The reason Kumar didn’t want to go to Bangalore was due to him not knowing english and the city being too far away for him. He stayed with the franchise for 3 seasons before being released.
Praveen Kumar claims every bowler tampers with the ball
Ball Tampering is one thing that could get any player a huge ban with the chances of their career getting over. Although it is frowned upon, it hasn’t stopped players from tampering it to get advantage. In that interview with The Lallantop, Praveen Kumar claimed almost all bowlers tamper the ball, with the Pakistan bowlers doing it the most.
Everyone does it. But, Pakistan bowlers do it the most. They would scratch it from one side, but one must know how to use that skill, too. If I scratch the ball and give it to someone, one must have the skills to reverse-swing it. One has to learn that.Praveen Kumar to Lallantop
Praveen Kumar retired from all forms of cricket in 2018, being just 32-years-old. He played 6 Tests and 68 ODIs for India. He was originally supposed to be in the 2011 World Cup squad, but injured his elbow and pulled out. Sreesanth replaced him, with India winning the tournament.
