In a recent T20I series against West Indies, India suffered a crushing defeat, with the series ending 3-2 in favor of the Carribeans. Former wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel did not hesitate to express his opinion, highlighting Hardik Pandya‘s status as a work in progress. Brandon King’s extraordinary unbeaten score of 85 helped West Indies to an eight-wicket victory over India in Lauderhill, Florida.

West Indies displayed their ability to bat by reaching their target of 166 with two overs remaining, thanks to a 107-run partnership between Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran. This victory boosted the spirits of the West Indies cricket team after their historic failure to qualify for the ODI World Cup.

Against Nicholas Pooran, he (Hardik Pandya) gave that over to Axar Patel and not bowling Yuzvendra Chahal. Bowling changes and the utilisation of the bowlers are something that tells me that Hardik, the captain for India, is still a work in progress,” Patel was quoted in Cricbuzz.

There is still room for improvement for Hardik Pandya

This setback did not go unnoticed, and concerns were raised about Hardik Pandya’s leadership and the Indian team’s strategy. In his analysis, Parthiv Patel highlighted several crucial instances in which Pandya’s decision-making fell short.

The spotlight also rested on Pandya’s batting performance. Pandya batted in seven games across three ODIs and five T20Is, but scored only one fifty in the ODI format. Given his disappointing performance in recent matches, including the IPL, his difficulties with the bat sparked concern.

And there is obviously a little concern about his batting. He needs runs. He didn’t get runs in the IPL, he didn’t get runs in the last couple of series as well. India would want to get some runs for Hardik Pandya in the Asia Cup or the series against Australia before the World Cup,” Patel said.
