Aiden Markram was appointed the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, with Kane Williamson being released. He has earlier led SRH’s team in the SA20, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, to the title and defended it in 2024 as well. Ahead of the 2024 IPL, many were unsure who would become the next SRH captain, thanks to the fact that the team had purchased a World Cup-winning captain.

In the 2024 IPL auction, SRH had purchased Pat Cummins for ₹20.5 crores, making him the 2nd most expensive player in the history of the tournament. He had recently led the Australian side in the 2023 WTC final and 2023 World Cup final, winning both tournaments.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the franchise will soon announce the Australian pacer as their new captain. Thanks to his resume as captain, along with the fact that head coach Daniel Vettori is a coach for Australia, it increases his chances to be the next captain of the side. 

Fans unhappy with the way Aiden Markram is treated 

Many fans were unhappy with the way SRH have treated Aiden Markram. They said even though Markram had not done well as SRH captain, he deserved a chance. Fans further called out how unfair it was that despite the all-rounder winning two SA20 titles for the owners, he is getting sacked.

In the 13 matches Markram has captained, he has won only 4. Cummins on the other hand has not captained any T20I match in his career, with Mitchell Marsh currently captaining the Australian side.
