In an interview with Boria Mujumdar, Gautam Gambhir said that fans need to stop being obsessed with individual players. Many fans thought Gambhir was targeting ex-Indian captain, MS Dhoni, once again.
Rumours are afloat that there is a rift between Dhoni and Gambhir, but Gambhir keeps denying it. Gambhir has always talked about how the credit for winning the 2011 World Cup is given to MS Dhoni. He says he isn’t happy with how social media portrays Dhoni while others have contributed as well.
In a recent interview with Boria, he talked about the World Cup again. He spoke about how people ignored Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan while everyone kept crediting Dhoni. Gambhir had also called out ESPNcricinfo in 2020 after they shared an image of MS Dhoni’s six against Sri Lanka. “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.” tweeted Gambhir.

Fans on X had enough of Gambhir’s complaining and called him jealous, insecure and obsessed. This isn’t the first time Gambhir had spoken about the same and fans were tired of the same topic being repeated over and over again by Gambhir. Currently Dhoni has stopped all relations with cricket, with him only playing in the IPL. Gambhir is a Member of the Lok Sabha and on the side works as a commentator. He is also the Mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants, but he is rumored to leave due the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
