On 9th April, Yash Dayal was jotted in the history books, but for the wrong reasons. The left-arm pacer failed to defend 29 runs in the final over, as Rinku Singh smacked him for five consecutive sixes to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to victory against Gujarat Titans.

Yash Dayal ended up falling sick after the match, losing up to 8 kilograms. He did end up coming back to play, featuring in two games but being released the next season. In the 2024 IPL Auction, he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹5 crore.

So far, the pacer has impressed. Although he has only two wickets in two matches, his work with the new ball has been impressive and has troubled batters. During RCB’s match with Punjab Kings, commentator Murali Kartik tried to praise him by referencing Rinku Singh’s escapade, but ended up blurting something really offensive and unprofessional.

Even RCB had their say on Kartik’s comments. They uploaded a photo of Dayal and called him their treasure, especially after bowling a wonderful spell of 1/23.

Yash Dayal’s economical spell restricted PBKS to only 175, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 45. During the chase, RCB struggled as they lost wickets on a regular interval. Virat Kohli did score 77, but he got out on the last ball of the 14th over.

Needing 47 off the last four overs, Dinesh Karthik and impact player Mahipal Lomror took RCB through the finish line. Kartik hit 28 off 10 while Lomror put up 17 off 8 to win the hosts the match.
