Zimbabwe, after defying all the odds and putting on performances of the ages, were denied a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup as Scotland beat the Chevrons on Tuesday (4 July). Chasing 235, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 203, losing the game by 31 runs. Although Ryan Burl tried his best to propel the team to victory, he fell short of partners.
The all-rounder scored an 84-ball 83 but only to see his team lose the game and as well as a chance to play the ODI World Cup in India later this year. Other than Burl, Wessly Madhevere chipped in with a handy 40 runs while Sikandar Raza scored 34 runs off 40 balls. But these were not enough to win the game.
Scotland pacer Chris Sole wreaked havoc with the new ball, claiming three wickets upfront. The right-arm pacer dismissed Joylord Gumbie, Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine, and Sean Williams who has been in impeccable form so far. The pacer was named the Player of the Match for his performance.
Fans feel for Zimbabwe and Sikandar Raza!
With the Chevrons failing to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup despite giving it all, fans felt heartbroken. While Zimbabwe fans were seen in tears at the stadium, fans on Twitter also empathized with Sikandar Raza’s team.

Meanwhile, a few fans poked fun at Pakistan.
Notably, after losing to Scotland, Zimbabwe have lost all hopes for qualification. There is not even the slightest possibility as either the Netherlands or Scotland will qualify for the ODI World Cup with Sri Lanka.
